Security issue on BlackBerry will be resolved soon: Minister

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Communications and Information Technology Minister A. Raja on Friday said the security issue related to BlackBerry mobile services would be resolved within a week. “We have been holding high-level consultations and most of the security issues have already been resolved to the satisfaction of security agencies,” Mr. Raja said while talking to reporters here.

Mr. Raja said things were being worked out to ensure that lakhs of BlackBerry users were not affected.

He, however, refused to indicate whether the Canadian firm Research-in-Motion (RIM), the vendor of BlackBerry services, had agreed to place its server in India to monitor e-mails being sent through the system.

There are about four lakh subscribers of the BlackBerry services offered by Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance and BPL Communications.
