The armed robbers shot thrice at security guard accompanying the van causing serious injuries Robbery was planned based on information of Ratti Pal about the cash usually carried by van NEW DELHI: Three persons, including a businessman, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police in connection with the sensational daylight robbery of Rs.34 lakh from a cash van at Delhi Cantonment earlier this month. The accused have been identified as alleged criminal Wazir alias Rajbir, businessman Ashok Malik and a bank security guard, Ratti Pal. The police claim to have recovered Rs.2.50 lakh in cash, a 7.65 bore pistol, a Santro car and a motorcycle. Accused Wazir along with other gang members had intercepted a Maruti-800 car of Mahamedha Urban Co-operative Bank near Kirby Place around 4 p.m. on April 16 and made off with the cash. First leadHowever, the victims managed to note down the registration number of the getaway car which helped the police identify one of the accused Sudhir, a resident of Saraswati Vihar. Further investigation revealed that Sudhir and his gang had allegedly committed the robbery. On Thursday evening, a police team arrested Wazir, a Sudhir gang member, when he came to Vijay Vihar. A pistol and three live cartridges were allegedly seized. During interrogation, Wazir purportedly told the police that the plan to rob the cash from the van was hatched a fortnight before the robbery and several dry runs were conducted. On April 16, the robbers assembled near a Chawri Bazar bank where the van was to reach to collect the cash. However, the d not collect any cash from Chawri Bazar and the robbers then followed it to a Punjabi Bagh bank. The van was then intercepted near Delhi Cantonment and the cash looted. Hunt onMohammed Israj of Nizamuddin had already surrendered before the court in this case because of police pressure. Several police teams have been despatched outside the Capital to nab the other accused. The robbery was planned based on the information of Ratti Pal about the cash usually carried by the van. The gang members used the house of co-accused Ashok Malik, who owns two factories in Sultanpuri, to hold their meetings and finalise the plan of the sensational robbery.
