Court demands explanation from DJB, CEC officials
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has asked the Municipal Commissioner of Delhi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Delhi Jal Board and the Chief Election Commissioner to explain how a permanent office of the Election Commission had come up in a park in C Block of Green Park Extension in South Delhi.
Justice Kailash Gambhir sought an explanation from the respondents on a petition by the Residents’ Welfare Association of Green Park Extension seeking demolition of the construction and restoration of the park to its original status. Counsel for the petitioner submitted that it was a private colony and the park belonged solely to his client. The construction raised by the Election Commission was illegal and unauthorised.
Counsel for the Commission had said that his client required a temporary office in the park for two years. Counsel for the Jal Board submitted that the park was handed over to it by the local body for maintenance of the water pump. He further said the Jal Board had given a portion to the Election Commission for setting up a temporary office.
