CHENNAI: The prelude to the audio launch of Dasavatharam here Friday evening began several hours earlier at Hotel Taj Coromandel, where most of the participating stars were put up.

From early Friday, the hotel lobby was abuzz with Kollywood actors, technicians and media persons who were hanging around hoping to catch a glimpse of Jackie Chan, Amitabh Bachchan, Mammooty and others. By 3 p.m., there was evidently more excitement at the hotel, for everyone knew that the stars had to leave for the function soon. Dasavatharam director K.S. Ravikumar, Oscar Films’ D. Ramesh Babu and their colleagues were coordinating with others at the venue over the phone. A few minutes and anxious phone calls later, Jackie Chan and Big B came to the hall at the basement were the trailer was to be screened.

As they settled down to watch the the doors were shut. Shots of the ten different guises of Kamal were played first. Later, one song (Kallai mattum…featuring the character of temple priest) and a short trailer were played.

After a moment’s silence, the lights were switched on, and the actors congratulated the director and told him that the shots were very impressive.

After the nearly 15-minute session, Jackie met the press. “I’ve known Oscar Films for about two decades and they have been distributing my films here. When they came and played some shots to me, I was like wow! This is really good,” he said, adding, “I want to see the whole movie now.” Asked if he would like to act in Indian films, he said he had earlier spoken to Hollywood producers from India. “I would like to bring Chinese and Indian cultures together,” he said.
