Parents stage protest after two newborns die

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Parents of the infants that died soon after birth in the Vani Vilas Hospital, along with their family members, staged a protest in front of the hospital on Friday accusing doctors of negligence in discharging their duties.

The protesters alleged that the doctors did not take proper care of the women who were admitted for delivery.

Padma, resident of M.S. Palya, and Jyothi, resident of Makali village, Basavanapura, were admitted to the hospital on Thursday. The same night both were delivered of babies, which died soon after. Following this, the parents accused the doctors of negligence and said that if the doctors had taken proper precaution, both the infants would have survived.

However, the doctors in the hospital denied the charge and said that they had done their best to save the infants. Speaking to The Hindu, Head of Department Gynaecology and Obstetrician Some Gowda said, “The patients who were admitted to the hospital were not being treated by us. We face problems in treating these patients who are referred to us at the last moment. Blaming the doctors is unfair.”
