CPI to support CPI(M) in two constituencies

To contest Medaram and Huzurabad Assembly seats

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India State council has, in principle, decided to field its candidates from Medaram and Huzurabad Assembly constituencies in the by-elections to 18 Assembly and four Lok Sabha seats.

The party’s State council, which discussed the issue at its two-day conclave in Nagarjunasagar, has decided to enter the poll fray after examining the report submitted by the Karimnagar district unit on the Communist Party of India’s strength in the two segments.

Tie-up issue discussed

The party has decided to extended its support to CPI(M) in Musheerabad and Cheriyal segments where the latter has decided to field its candidates.

The meeting discussed at length the issue of alliances with other political parties, but the participants agreed to take a decision only after the crucial meeting with the CPI(M) on Sunday.

Working together

The two parties are expected to iron out minor differences and ensure that they work together in the constituencies where they field their nominees.

“Let the CPI (M) clarify its stand on the alliances so that we can take a decision on our course of action,” a senior CPI leader said.

He refuted the talk that the party had spurned the alliance proposal by the Congress which offered Medaram seat to it.

“How does the question arise when there was no formal discussion between the two parties?”

Price rise

Meanwhile, the party decided to resume its struggle against price rise on May 1 by launching agitations in various forms across the State.

The CPI would seek the support of other political parties in the next phase of agitations, scheduled to conclude May 15, in mounting pressure on the government to bring down the prices of essentials.
