Development and stability to be Congress plank

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal on Saturday said “development and stability” would be the major poll plank for the Congress in the next four weeks of the election campaign.

Addressing journalists here, Mr. Sibal said, “The Assembly elections in the State are about choosing a party that has a proven record of providing stability and development or choosing the parties that have hurled the State into a period of instability, owing to their opportunistic politics.”

The Congress had provided stability and development on all fronts in the State under the S.M. Krishna government. “Since then both the BJP and the JD(S) demonstrated an amazing capacity for political somersaults simply to stay in power at the cost of the development of the State.”

He ridiculed the Gujarat development model advocated by the Bharatiya Janata Party and said Karnataka was way ahead of Gujarat in all aspects of development. “There is no comparison between Gujarat and Karnataka. Karnataka is a progressive State and is ahead of other States in education and information technology sectors,” he said.

The Congress government in the State from 1999 to 2004 not only provided stability but also took the State on the path of socio-economic development.

The Janata Dal (Secular) and the BJP joined hands with total disregard for ideologies and democratic principles.
