Kollam triumphs

KOTTAYAM: Kollam won the title in the South Zone under-16 inter-district cricket tournament here on Saturday.

Kollam, which got two points for the first innings lead from the drawn encounter against Alappuzha at University stadium, finished its engagements with nine points. Thiruvananthapuram (eight) and Kottayam (six) came second and third respectively.

The Kottayam-Pathanamthitta match at the Medical College ground also ended in a draw. Kottayam took two points for the first innings lead.

The scores: Alappuzha 237 in 73. 5 overs & 59 for five in 20 overs (Mohd. Ansal four for 42) drew with Kollam 290 in 84.3 overs (Jackson Cleetus 62, Arjun Kishore 59, Akshay Jyothi four for 85)

Kottayam 325 drew with Pathanamthitta 138 in 70 overs (Mohd Ansal 70, Manu Kuriesn five for 46) & 66 for five in 27 overs (Mohd Aslam 46 n.o.). — Special Correspondent
