NEW DELHI: The Indian girls finished seventh in the Asia-Oceania World Junior under-14 tennis tournament that concluded at Shenzen, China on Saturday. Having lost the decisive doubles in the previous positional match to Thailand, the Indian girls faced New Zealand for the seventh place. Natasha Palha gave a good start by beating Olivia Isbey 6-3, 6-3 and Ratnika Batra completed the task by brushing aside Leela Beattie 6-2, 6-2. While the Indian girls failed to qualify for the World Group final to be staged in the Czech Republic in August, the Indian boys’ team had earlier accomplished the task at the same venue the previous week by finishing joint third with Australia. The Junior Davis Cup, featuring the under-16 boys’ teams in the region, will be played at the DLTA Complex here from Monday.
