Kolkata: Mohammedan Sporting, Kolkata got past Pune FC by the odd goal in five (3-2) to consolidate its position in the final phase of the I-League Division II. The third round match, played at the Nehru Stadium, Guwahati on Saturday, saw a keen contest as debutant Pune FC put on an excellent show. But Sporting, which found its lead levelled twice by Pune FC, managed to win by a lone goal margin. Roque Barreto opened the lead for Mohammedan Sporting in the 21st minute. The Pune side fought back and equalised within two minutes through Bungo Singh. The fast-paced first session continued to see more goals as Mohammedan Sporting’s African recruit, Subair Ali Muritala, reclaimed the lead in the 38th minute. Pune FC ensured the first session ended on level terms with F. Lal Rozama fetching the equaliser in the 41st minute. In the second session, Nigerian forward Adebayo Adewusi sealed the issue in favour of the Kolkata side firing a longranger in the 63rd minute. The win put Mohammedan Sporting in company of the league leaders Chirag United and Mumbai FC with six points from three matches. Pune FC, having lost its previous two matches, remained on zero. — Principal Correspondent
