Traffic restriction in city today

In connection with BJP leader L.K. Advani’s visit to the State

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Traffic restrictions will be imposed in the capital from Sunday afternoon in view of the visit of Leader of Opposition and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani and Sree Jaganatha Rathotsavam.

Mr. Advani will arrive at the international airport here by a special aircraft from Kochi at 2.15 p.m. After the reception at the airport, he will proceed to Hotel Udaya Samudra, Kovalam, for the press conference at 3.30 p.m.

From Kovalam, Mr. Advani will proceed through the NH 47 bypass to Santhigiri Ashram, Pothencode, by 4.30 p.m. to inaugurate the 10-day celebrations in connection with Navaoli Jothirdinam.

Mr. Advani will later address Samtva Samrakshana rally being taken out by the BJP at Putharikandam Maidan at 6 p.m. He will leave the venue at 7.50 p.m. to the airport to proceed to New Delhi at 8 p.m. in a special aircraft.

Movement of vehicular traffic will be restricted by the police at the Airport, Shanghumughom, All Saints College, Chaka, Enchakkal, Thiruvallom and Kovalam in view of the visit of Mr. Advani to Kovalam. Later, curbs will be imposed at Kovalam, Chaka, Kazhakuttom NH 47 bypass, Enchakkal, West Fort, S.P. Fort Hospital Junction, Pazhavangady and East Fort.

The vehicles bringing in people for the rally to be addressed by Mr. Advani at Putharikandam Maidan should park along the Killipalam bund road, on one side of the Attakulangara bypass and on the old road of the Chaka NH 47 bypass, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic, South, P. Mohanan Nair.

In view of the rally to be taken out by the BJP from Central stadium to the Putharikandam Maidan from 4 p.m. onwards, traffic restrictions will be imposed at the Statue, Overbridge and East Fort areas on Sunday evening.

The police will also restrict vehicular traffic at Hanumanswami temple near Vikas Bhavan, R.R. Lamp, Museum, Keltron junction, Manaveeyam road, Police Headquarters, Vazhuthacaud, Thycaud, Mettukada, Churakattupalayam, Killipalam and Attakulangara in view of the Jaganatha Rathotsavam.

The Rathotsavam will commence from near the Vikas Bhavan at 2 p.m.
