BANGALORE: After the Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) and the more local Karnataka Common Entrance Exam, it is the turn of engineering seat aspirants from across the country to sit for the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). As many as seven lakh students, which is roughly a lakh more than last year, will take the test on Sunday. With about 20 centres in Bangalore, almost 9,000 students have applied from Bangalore this year. Admissions to all the 20 National Institutes of Technology, five Indian Institutes of Information Technology and Engineering Courses & Architecture (including Planning) programmes at the undergraduate level at several other Centrally funded colleges such the as J.K. Institute of Applied Physics & Technology and the School of Architecture, Delhi depend on AIEEE scores. A growing number of colleges, besides the central ones are opting to use the AIEEE score as their benchmark. Two papersThe duration of the examination will be three hours and will comprise two papers. The first paper will have three parts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of equal weightage with objective type questions for Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Technology courses. The second paper will consist of Mathematics and Aptitude Test for Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Planning courses. Negative marking is something students will have to look out for. According to the AIEEE website, counselling has been tentatively scheduled to start on June 30 for engineering courses, and on July 6 for the Bachelor of Architecture courses.
