KANNUR: The second E.K. Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup football tournament resumes on Sunday after a day’s rest, with the semifinal clash between two foreign teams — Ferroviaria from Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Bayelsa United from Nigeria. It ought to be an interesting match at the Jawahar Municipal Stadium between two unbeaten sides in the competition. Bayelsa has looked the most complete team here while Ferroivaria proved it was no pushover with an authoritative 4-0 win against Mohammedan AC, Kolkata, in its last league match; that performance must have heartened the organisers too, for in its first two games, the Brazilian team was not impressive at all. Bayelsa, on the other hand, was spectacular in its first match against the talented Argentine side, Instituto Buenos Aires de Futbol. The Nigerians won 2-0 in what was possibly the most exciting game of football here in a while. In Okpose Martins, they have an exceptional player who can worry the best of defenders. Bayelsa also has the best defence in the competition, making it one of the favourites to win the title on April 30. After the first semifinal between foreign outfits, the second one, to be played on Monday, is completely a domestic affair, with Air India taking on Sporting Clube de Goa. These teams are unbeaten too.
