Dance floors rule out of the box

Prabhakar

Good old Doordarshan, one wonders, whatever went wrong for it. The channel appears to have failed in facing the challenge posed by new ones and lost all its charm. An entire generation grew up with it but as options emerged and more vibrant and entertaining content was dished out, the remote control took over and DD slowly took the backseat.

Some of DD Saptagiri’s initiatives have been quite appreciable but failed in reaching out. ‘Ruthuragalu’ and ‘Siri’ did make create waves that still remain unmatchable in terms of popularity, but that kind of success has not been repeated in recent times. Another initiative ‘Muthyala Haaram’ won the hearts of many discerning viewers. The contemporary times seem to have been completely dominated by shows and those with dance floors are ruling. Thus all the channels have some show or other inviting youngsters to the floor. The trend follows successful singing contests for different age groups that the channels worked out.

On ETV, a versatile Prabhakar continues to reign with a host of shows. ‘Yahoo’ did wonders and it is followed by the sequel of ‘Star Wars’ and the funnily done ‘Super Duper’. On Gemini, one can catch up with the dance show ‘Humma Humma’.
