Aid on wheels: Law Minister M. Vijayakumar inaugurating the mobile medicare unit for senior citizens introduced by HelpAge India. Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram unit of HelpAge India has launched a mobile medicare unit for destitute senior citizens. Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar inaugurated the unit at a function held here on Friday. The mobile medicare unit is a moving dispensary that would regularly visit pre-identified areas to offer medical assistance to the needy. Treatment and medicines would be free for senior citizens. The Minister honoured 34 organisations involved in various age-care projects supported by HelpAge India. He also presented a Social Responsibility Award to Life Insurance Corporation (LIC). K. Swaminathan, senior divisional manager, LIC, received the award. N. Nagaraj, airport director, offered felicitations. Aliamma Thampy, joint director, HelpAge India, and Biju Mathew, senior manager, also spoke.
