Reorientation camp for Muslim religious leaders

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: Efforts are being made to re-orient the leadership of the Muslim community in order to cope with the changing times. The Khateebs (those giving sermon on Fridays), Mudaris (principals of Islamic schools attached to mosques), and Imams (leaders at mosques) in the State will get a week-long reorientation training as part of the move.

The Sayed Habeeb Abdulla bin Alavi Al Haddad (SHAHAD) Charitable Trust, based at Perumpilavu in Thrissur district, has chalked out the training programme to be held at its headquarters. Kazi of Malappuram O.P.M. Sayed Muthukoya Thangal will kick off the programme on May 2.

The organisers said the week-long course would mark the first phase of a long programme aimed at bringing about a change in the form and style of delivering religious teaching.

The programme titled ‘Insight’ will impart training in leadership skills, better communication and other soft skills required for the heads of mahals and mosques who are in direct contact with the people of their respective jurisdiction.

The programme will also lay thrust on personality development, said Sayed Hashim Haddad Thangal, chairman of the SHAHAD Charitable Trust. Scholars from within and outside the State will lead the training camp. The Trust will provide food and accommodation free for the participants.
