“Form panel for senior citizens”

Special Correspondent

TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu Senior Citizens and Pensioners Welfare Association has appealed to the State government to establish a senior citizens council on the lines of the one functioning in New Delhi.

The fifth State conference and the 10th anniversary of the association held here recently also urged the government to establish senior citizens home in all district headquarters through the Social Welfare Department and financial support of the Centre. All district headquarters hospitals should have a separate geriatrics ward and specialist doctors from the field should be appointed. All private hospitals should offer concessions in treatment cost for senior citizens from families that were below the poverty line.
