B.R. Patil held on charge of poll code violation

GULBARGA: The former Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council and Congress candidate for Aland, B.R. Patil, was arrested at Aland on Sunday on the charge on violating election code of conduct. He was released on bail.

The police also arrested the president of the district unit of the Janata Party, Yeshwant Hattarki, Salam Sagari of the Congress, Dadaji Sauryavanshi of the Janata Dal (Secular), Basavalingappa Gaekwad of the Bahujan Samaj Party and Siddaramappa Patil of the Bharatiya Janata Party on the charge of violating the election code of conduct at Narona in Aland taluk. They were released on bail.

The election authorities have registered cases against Mr. Patil and the other arrested in the past four days for violating the code.

Meanwhile, the police and the excise officials seized a Maruti car and recovered Indian Made Liquor worth Rs. 1 lakh at Hulsagod Gate.

The liquor was being transported from Andhra Pradesh to Chincholi taluk.

Two persons were arrested. Fifty litres of toddy stored in house at Road Kallur in Chincholi was seized and two persons were arrested.

In Afzalpur taluk, the police and excise officials raided three places at Mannur, Bandarwad and Mashal villages and seized 700 arrack sachets. They arrested one person.

In Gulbarga, the excise officials raided a house at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and seized 30 litres of illicit liquor and arrested two persons.
