Gaya: One person was shot dead by armed Maoists near Roshan Ganj police station in Gaya on Sunday. The deceased, working for a contractor who was assigned the job of mining sand close to the embankment of a river, was shot dead by armed Maoists in the district, police said. Refusal of the contractor to obey the orders of the Maoists about collection of royalty, recently hiked by the state government, was believed to be the main reason behind the incident, they said. The Maoists have described the rise in royalty collection from public as “anti-people”.
