Physiotherapists seek ‘Group A’ status

Staff Reporter

“Implement Vishwakarma panel report”

NEW DELHI: Demanding entry into “Group A” and implementation of the “Vishwakarma Committee Report” that recommended inclusion of physiotherapy in the medical category in the Fifth Pay Commission, the Physiotherapists’ Forum of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in collaboration with the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (Delhi) and the Central Government Employee Physiotherapy Forum held a protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar here this past week.

‘Promises only’

Physiotherapists’ Forum of AIIMS president Ganesh Kumar Meena said: “The Government had promised to look into the matter, but we are yet to see any results. We want the Government to allow us ‘Group-A’ entry and immediately review and correct the anomalies in the Sixth Central Pay Commission recommendations for the physiotherapists. Another long-standing demand of physiotherapists has been an independent physiotherapy council, that will be the umbrella organisation for physiotherapists across the country.”

‘Independent council’

Demanding full autonomy and establishment of an independent council governing physiotherapists, Chief Physiotherapist at St. Stephen’s Hospital Koshy K. Mathai added: “Like all other councils the physiotherapists should be given two-third majority of representation for smooth functioning of our council and occupational therapists should be segregated from this council.”
