Farmer commits suicide

KASARAGOD: A farmer, who was in distress following his inability to repay agricultural loans taken from a cooperative bank, committed suicide at Peruthady, near Rajapuram, in the district on Saturday night. His daughter was to get married on Sunday.

The deceased Sivasankara Marar (45) was found dead by his relatives in his arecanut farm near his home. He went out at 3 p.m. on Saturday and did not return. Following this, his relatives conducted search when they found him hanging in the farm. Mr. Marar had been in severe financial crisis following losses he suffered because of fall in prices of arecanut and cashew and damage to crops.
