Bangalore: As many as 85 ex-servicemen staged a protest at Minsk Square here on Sunday demanding that the Union Government resolve their long-standing problems, including enhancement of pension. The ex-servicemen paid homage to martyrs and said a silent prayer holding candles before staging the protest. They said that a soldier or an officer who has spent his entire life serving the Defence forces of the country expects suitable pension to enable him to lead a dignified life, and that his pension is enhanced periodically. They said that most of the political parties include the issue of one-rank-one pension in their manifesto but ignore it [the issue] after the elections. Stating that the sixth pay commission has rejected this demand, the ex-servicemen demanded that one-rank-one-pension plea be fulfilled without any delay. The ex-servicemen said that the recommendations of the sixth pay commission relating to the armed forces should be scrapped as the review by the Cabinet Secretary was unfair.
