9 lakh appear for AIEEE
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Around nine lakh candidates appeared for the All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination-2008 at 1,299 centres on Sunday.
“There were no complaints from any centre. As many as 863,000 students were registered for today’s examination — 858,000 for B. E./ B. Tech. and 48,000 for B. Architecture/ B. Planning. There were many students who registered themselves for both the papers,” said Pitam Singh, Head of Department (Special Exams) at the Central Board of Secondary Education.
This year saw an increase of around 220,000 candidates for AIEEE. “This is primarily because a lot of students are opting for engineering than medicine. B. Tech. along with two years of MBA fetches them better pay packets,” he said.
The examinations were at two centres outside India — in Riyadh and Dubai. AIEEE is held for admission to 20 National Institutes of Technology and some deemed universities.
