HASC takes title

BANGALORE: Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club (HASC) continues to rule the local football scenario.

At the Football Stadium here on Sunday, HASC took the lead, conceded the advantage and then stamped its authority again for a convincing 3-1 victory over BEML (Earth Movers) to lift the Puttaiah Memorial football tournament for yet another year.

The good turn-out and the great following for both the outfits, was also a tribute to the late R. Shanmugham, a former BDFA/ KSFA member, who passed away recently.

The entire gate collection of Rs. 10,610 besides contributions from KSFA (Rs. 25,000) and an equal amount from the BDFA and from various others (Rs. 2,750) will be handed over to late Shanmugham’s family.

HASC went into the lead in the 28th minute through Fredrick and then went into a defensive mode enabling BEML to claw its way into the match.

Equaliser

The equaliser was not far in coming and in the 68th minute Mohd. Khalander tapped in a flag-kick by Tikken Singh amidst a host of legs.

HASC protested the goal, but referee Elangovan stood his ground, probably making up for the seemingly off-side goal that he had allowed HASC.

The aircraftmen opened up the rival defence and Fredrick struck for the second time in the match, neatly turning home a Dada Nabeel square across.

In the 86th minute, HASC put the issue beyond doubt when substitute Satish headed powerfully into the near corner a fine free-kick from Xavier Vijaya Kumar.

BEML defenders Obinna Winners and Karthik showed their frustration with blatant fouls on Sumit Thapa, the HASC stopper back and were promptly shown their respective yellow cards in quick succession and exited from the field.

However, with barely anytime left, HASC could not press on its numerical advantage. — Special Correspondent
