Prachanda stresses cooperation with India
Siddharth Varadarajan
Prachanda
New Delhi: Nepali Maoist leader Prachanda has said that the coalition government his party will lead will strive to establish a "new unity on a new basis" with India.
In an exclusive interview to The Hindu, Mr. Prachanda said it would not be possible to bring stability and prosperity to Nepal without taking cooperation with India forward. “Indeed, it is more or less impossible. Any practical leader, anyone who understands reality, cannot be confused about this.”
Though Mr. Prachanda said his party was “clear and categorical” about the need to replace the 1950 treaty with a new treaty in keeping with the changed circumstances of the time, the intention was to improve the bilateral relationship rather than damage it.
