BHUBANESWAR: After a fortnight of scorching heat conditions, the State is set to experience a dip in temperature as a low pressure area which turned into a depression could hit the State’s coast within a couple of days. “Latest satellite imageries indicate that Saturday’s low pressure area over South East Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood concentrated into a depression and now lay centred over south east Bay of Bengal at about 850 km South-South-East of Gopalpur,” according to Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre. The system is likely to intensify further and move initially in north-westerly direction. The Met office predicted that rain or thundershower was likely at a few places over south Orissa and isolated places over north Orissa. On Sunday, the day’s temperature at most of the stations across coastal Orissa came down below 40 degree Celsius. While the highest temperature recorded in the capital city was 36.8 degree Celsius, its neighbouring Cuttack experienced 36 degree Celsius. Highest temperatureAt Puri, Gopalpur, Paradip, Chandbali and Balasore, highest temperature of the day fluctuated from 30 to 40 degree Celsius. According to State revenue control room, the sunstroke death toll remained unchanged at seven while administration was verifying reports of 51 deaths that had taken place due to intense heat wave conditions.
