Chagala taken to murder spot

Police step up investigation in Biranchi Das case

Chagala is close aide of Raja Acharya, the prime suspect

Police confident of getting of vital leads

BHUBANESWAR: The city police took Chagala, the close aide of gangster Raja Acharya, the prime suspect in the Biranchi Das murder case, for spot verification near Judo Association Hall here on Sunday.

The police team accompanying Chagala tried to get a picture of how did the murder take place.

“We made attempts to know as to how did miscreants escape from the spot after committing the murder. From how much distance, the bullet was fired on Biranchi Das,” a police official said.

For last few days, the police had been interrogating the henchman of Raja Acharya to get a concrete lead.

It was reported that there had been no coherence in the statements made by Chagala after his surrender at Bhopal.

However, the police was trying to match his confessions with his Sunday’s description about the incident. “Once we are assured that whatever he had confessed before us is fitting with the spot verification, we will go ahead with the investigation with more confidence,” he said.

BST funds

Meanwhile, the police stepped up its investigation into Chagala’s confession that the murder was a result of fight over “huge fund” with Buddhia Singh Trust (BST).

The BST was constituted to collect assistance from different organisations to help child marathoner Buddhia Singh become a reputed athlete in future.

Earlier, mother of Buddhia and Biranchi Das had a fallout over the misuse of funds. However, Biranchi Das had then told media that he had not received any money as promised by different organisations except a few lakhs.
