THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Federation of Residents’ Association, Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT) has submitted a memorandum to K.G. Balakrishnan, Chief Justice of India, urging him to intervene to help in the setting up of a High Court Bench in the city. In a press release by Pattom Sasidharan Nair, president of the association, it was recalled how the first Assembly of the State, when the E.M.S. Namboodiripad government was in power, had passed a unanimous resolution for setting up a Bench here. However, it was unfortunate that the resolution had not taken effect even after 50 years, when the Assembly was celebrating its golden jubilee.
Members of the Bar association submitted a memorandum to L.K. Advani, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Bharatiya Janata Party leader, who is on a visit to the State. The memorandum seeks the support of the Opposition MPs when a private Bill for the High Court Bench is introduced in Parliament. Mr. Advani promised the full support of the BJP in the House.
