KOCHI: Jithin Francis struck the match-winner late in the first half as Fort Kochi’s Delta Study defeated Girinagar’s Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir 1-0 and won the Junior Coca-Cola Champion inter-school football tournament at the Fort Kochi Parade Ground on Sunday evening. Girinagar Bhavan’s Akhil K. Joseph was named as the Kochi tournament’s best player. Delta Study, the winner of the Kochi event, will travel to Mumbai to play the champion schools of seven other cities — Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Changigarh, Delhi, Bangalore and Goa — in a national competition in May. Sixteen players selected from the Mumbai event will be sent to Brazil for special training later this year. The results: Final: Delta Study, Fort Kochi 1 (Jiffin Francis) bt Bhavan’s, Girinagar 0. For third place: Don Bosco, Vaduthala 1 (K. Sanoop) bt St John De Britto, Fort Kochi 0. Semifinals: Delta Study 1 (M.K.Jabir) bt John de Britto 0; Bhavan’s Girinagar 1 (Akhil K. Joseph) bt Don Bosco, Vaduthala 0.
