Rahul Swayamsevak Trust on Perur reservoir revival campaign Police caution trust founders from holding public meeting ANANTAPUR: Twenty-one Telugu Desam Party activists named as suspects in the alleged attack on Congress workers near Venkatapuram village surrendered at the Ramagiri police station on Sunday. Venkatapuram happens to be the native village of Penukonda legislator P. Sunita. The suspects also include TDP legislator’s younger brother D. Balaji. A large number of Telugu Desam supporters including the Penukonda legislator went to the police station and requested the police to produce the suspects in the attack case in the court at the earliest. Meanwhile, a public meeting is being organised by T. Chandrasekhar Reddy and T. Prakash Reddy of the Congress at Peruru reservoir near Ramagiri on Monday to launch the activities of their Rahul Swayamsevak Trust. The programme includes sinking of borewells to the poor farmers free of cost and disbursement of interest-free loans to shepherds. Ministers J. C. Diwakar Reddy and N. Raghuveera Reddy are likely to participate in the programme. Public supportThe Rahul Swayamsevak Trust founders known as Thopudurthi brothers stated that they were also mobilising people’s support for revival of Peruru reservoir by linking it with Hundri-Neeva project to irrigate the lands in the reservoir’s command area parched for more than a decade due to lack of inflows into the reservoir from the Pennar river. The reservoir got completely dry as Karnataka had constructed several obstructions across the river in its upper reaches. The police, it was learnt, have cautioned the Thopudurthi brothers from holding the public meeting as it might escalate the adverse situation in the area. However, the organisers were adamant to go ahead with their schedule.
