Pattnaik to take part in global contest

BHUBANESWAR: Puri-based internationally acclaimed sand sculptor Sudarsan Pattnaik has been selected for the first edition of the Moscow International Sand Sculpture Championship.

The 10-day competition that would kick off at the Russian capital city on May 23 would have the participation of 10 nations that includes Italy, The Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Spain, Canada and the host Russia.

“I received an invitation from the selection committee chairperson Pavel Zadanyuk to represent India. I have decided to carve a 20-feet sculpture in 56 hours spanning over six days,” Sudarsan told ‘The Hindu’ on Sunday.

Ten former world champions are in the fray for the championship, added the master sculptor who has already participated in 35 international sand sculpture championships across the world and has won many laurels for the nation.
