Eight held, 40 cows rescued

HASSAN: Arasikere town police seized two mini lorries that were transporting 40 cows to slaughterhouses in Bangalore on Sunday. Eight persons were arrested in this connection.

Additional Superintendent of Police Umesh Pangam said that based on a complaint, the police stopped the lorries near St. Mary’s High School on B.H. Road at 11 a.m. and rescued the cows.

He gave the names of the arrested as Rizwan, Raju, Akbar, Arif, Sultan Pasha, Imtiyaz, Khalilullah and Rahamatullah.The rescued cows would be sent to a “goshala” at Jodihochihalli in Kadur taluk, he said.

Betting

The police raided a shop in Kothari Complex on Chikkabasti Road on Saturday and arrested Mahaveer Jain on the charge of betting. They seized Rs. 4,800, a television set and a cell phone from him.
