Sir, — Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd. has constructed a bus shelter in Arehalli AG’s Layout at the BMTC bus terminus of route No. 45D. Some days ago, a four-wheeler dashed against it, damaging the poles. The structure is now hanging down, threatening to fall on the commuters. I request the company authorities to repair the same immediately. S. Kuppuswamy, Bangalore Surcharge on borewellsSir, — The Bangalore Waster Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has been collecting Rs. 50 a month from house owners who have sunk borewells on their premises. Is it because the owner tries to bring the underground water to the surface for domestic consumption? When the BWSSB is not incurring any expenses on private borewells, it has no right to levy such surcharge. Assuming that it has the right to collect surcharge on active borewells, it certainly cannot levy such charges on defunct ones. The Bangalore Electricity Company Ltd. (BESCOM) allows a rebate of Rs. 40 a month to owners using solar water heaters which BWSSWB should have followed. It is hoped that the BWSSB authorities either limit the levy to active borewells or even withdraw it, altogether. L. Raju, Bangalore Ailing hospitalSir, — The Government Ayurvedic Hospital near KSRTC bus terminus in Bangalore used to be an excellent facility during the erstwhile State of Mysore. Built in 1948, the hospital used to have eminent doctors and dedicated nurses. Today, the hospital is in a deplorable state, with filth outside and inside it. There are no toilets or drinking water facility. Debris is being dumped in the backyard of the hospital. The gates and grills at the entrance are rusted and on the verge of collapasing. The officials concerned should visit the hospital once in a while and ensure that there is improvement in its conditions and quality of service. N. Raju, Bangalore Readers can email letters to letters.mysore@ thehindu.co.in
