Teacher Training Institute founder held
VILLUPURAM: The police on Sunday arrested K. Rayar (52), founder of the Jayasurya Teacher Training Institute here, on charges of abetting the suicide of M. Sathya (18).
The police said Sathya, of Vikkiravandi, enrolled in the institute in 2007 and paid Rs.21,000 of the Rs.1 lakh admission fee, and submitted all her original certificates. Later, she learnt that some members in earlier batches could not sit for the final exams because the institute had admitted in excess of the permitted strength. When she approached the institute for her certificates, Rayar told her to pay the remaining Rs.79,000 and take them back. Dejected, Sathya jumped into a farm well on April 24, 2007. — Special Correspondent
