ANGAMALY: As she finished her workout for the day, Rushmi Chakravarthi was watching her potential rivals having a feel of the new FISAT tennis courts, Mookkannur, near here on Sunday evening. The Chennai-based grasscourt National champion has been given the top billing in the Federal Bank women’s international tournament, which begins here on Monday. She is 200 rungs above the second-seeded Prerana Mythri Appineni in the ITF women’s rankings but Rushmi is not taking things easy. The six-day $10,000 ITF tournament has a promising field, which includes Korean Yu Min-Hwa, the third seed, who is making her maiden visit to India. Four clay courts have been laid for the event, which is sponsored by the Federal Bank and hosted by Federal Institute of Science and Technology.
The seedings: Singles: 1. Rushmi Chakravarthi, 2. Prerana Mythri Appineni, 3. Yu Min Hwa (Kor), 4. Sonal Phadke, 5. Parul Goswami, 6. Sweta Kumari Solanki, 7. Miki Miyamura (Jpn), 8. Julie Matojan (Est). Doubles: 1. Rushmi & Poojashree Venkatesha, 2. Prerana & Goele Lemmens, 3. Parul & Sonal, 4. Shweta Kakhandki Gadigeppa & Asha Nandakumar. — Principal Correspondent
