Police believe the murders were committed with robbery as motive NEW DELHI: The driver of the footwear merchant who along with his nephew was gunned down by some unknown assailants at Saraswati Vihar in North-West Delhi about a week ago, succumbed to his gunshot injury at All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here in the early hours of Sunday. The police claim to have got some specific leads in the case. The driver, Sandeep, was taking his employer Raghuvir Mittal and his nephew Pavan back home to Pitampura when the assailants in a Maruti Esteem struck near Kohat Enclave on April 21 evening. While Mr. Mittal and Pavan died on way to hospital, Sandeep was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Max Hospital with a gunshot wound in the head. He was later shifted to AIIMS. According to the police, his condition deteriorated on Saturday night and he was declared dead early in the morning. They were unable to record Sandeep’s statement as he remained unfit. However, before he was admitted to the ICU, the driver had told the police that the assailants had come in a red Esteem car. As it was night, the police suspect that it was a maroon car. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West Delhi) Manish Agrawal on Sunday said there were specific inputs in the case and that the police were positive about solving it soon. Based on the investigations so far, they have reasons to believe that the murders were committed with robbery as motive, primarily because one of the bags containing money was found missing from the victims’ car. The police have also not come across any evidence so far suggesting that the attack on Mr. Mittal and Pavan was fallout of any business rivalry or enmity.
