Avoid plastic carry bags, officials told
Staff Reporter
Coimbatore: Charity begins at home. Practise what you preach seems to be the objective of a circular from Collector V. Palanikumar on Thursday regarding the ban on plastics.
In a letter addressed to the heads of departments, Mr. Palanikumar said that government officials should first refrain from using items made of plastic such as cups, plates and carry bags in government offices.
Then, the Collector has asked the officials in Coimbatore and Tirupur Corporations, Municipalities, Town Panchayats, Panchayat Unions, Tahsildars and Revenue Divisional officers to create awareness among the public on the ways and means to ensure eradication of plastic carry bags, tumblers, cups and plates, especially those falling below the 20 micron level.
After creating awareness, officials should visit establishments and shops to prevent the use of such items.
