Volleyball tourney held for tribals

VIZIANAGARAM: In an attempt to divert the attention of youth from extremist activities and also to tap the hidden talent of tribals, the District Police Office conducted mega volleyball tournament at Parvathipuram.

In all 36 teams from Komarada, G.L. Puram, Kurupam, Jiyyammavalasa, Garugubilli, Parvathipuram, Pachipenta, Salur and Makkuva mandals participated in the tournament, according to M. Ravindranath Babu, Officer on Special Duty, in a press release here. The participants were provided boarding and lodging. The team from Dokisila won the first prize and Talladumma team occupied the second place.

Superintendent of Police Vikram Singh Mann distributed sports dresses to the four teams qualified for semi-finals. Bangaru Sankar and Anant, who were adjudged the best, were selected for the State-level meet in Vijayawada next month.

Mr. Ravindranath Babu said that reservations in sports category would be provided in the recruitment of constables. Parvathipuram DSP B. Sudershana Rao, Inspectors and others participated.
