Collection in 2007-2008 is about 30 per cent more than that of previous year Excise duty collection is 16 per cent less than the target COIMBATORE: Service Tax collection in the Coimbatore region for 2007-2008 was about 30 per cent more than the previous year, said Commissioner of Central Excise, Coimbatore, C. Rajendiran. He told presspersons on Sunday that Rs. 321 crore was service tax collection for the year ended March 31, 2008 and excise revenue was Rs. 353 crore. Excise duty collection was however, 16 per cent less than the target. Mr. Rajendiran said Coimbatore was one of the regions identified for a pilot project on e-governance and it was planned to develop the Coimbatore commissionerate into a model one. Awareness about computerisation was high here. The six special economic zones coming up in this region would play a great role for exports, he said.
