Encouraging response to ‘Ananta Aanimutyalu’

ANANTAPUR: A workshop will be conducted with the philanthropists who donated funds to ‘Ananta Aanimutyalu’ society for taking their suggestions to work out the guidelines for utilisation of funds, beneficiary selection process, implementation of reservation and others to ensure transparency in the whole scheme evolved to help the meritorious students from poor families to continue education after SSC.

According to District Collector N. Sridhar, about Rs. 32 lakh donations were received by the society so far and all the patrons would be involved in taking decisions over the modalities for utilisation of funds mobilised.

The donors would be given survey forms to elicit their views. Category-wise merit list of students would be kept on website ‘ www.anantapur.gov.in’ so that it could be easy for the donors to express their views.

Thanking the tremendous response to the project from different sections of the society, the Collector said it was quite natural that there would be some resistance from one section or the other to any good work in the society. Such resistance could be overcome with sincerity in the implementation of the project and transparency in its activities.

Every effort would be made to make ‘Ananta Aanimutyalu’ the most transparent activity.

The number of beneficiaries would be worked out based on the donations received till May-end and the expenditure required for each student for pursuing two-year Intermediate course. The funds would be utilised purely for the benefit of merit students from the poorest of poor families who would not be in a position to continue their education after SSC, he said.

A special committee headed by the Joint Collector would be formed to select the beneficiary students for the programme. District Education Officer, officials of SC, ST, BC and Physically Handicapped Welfare Departments, representatives of non-governmental organisations and experts in education sector would also be involved in the process.

A three-member officials’ committee had already visited 17 government residential colleges in the district and had ascertained standards of education there, their results during the last three years, amenities and infrastructure available there. The eligible merit students would be counselled by experts and the students and parents concerned would be given a week’s time to make a decision over Intermediate admission.

The Collector also wrote letters and sent e-mails to about 5,000 persons of the district living outside including retired civil servants, industrialists and others seeking their help for the students who were not in a position to continue education in spite of their merit.

Patrons could also send their donations through online transfer of funds to account number SB/1/1235 in Collectorate branch of Andhra Bank here (code No. 1429) or they could directly give the funds in the special cell created in the Collectorate and take receipts.
