Pravat Kumar Swain wins ‘Naveen Kalakar’ dance competition

BHUBANESWAR: Last year’s national youth festival winner male Odissi dancer Pravat Kumar Swain emerged as the winner in the just concluded second State-level Naveen Kalakar Odissi dance festival and competition. A student of the prestigious Orissa Dance Academy, he is a disciple of noted dancer-choreographer Aruna Mohanty.

Suchitra Mohanty of Dhenkanal district and Sangya Sucharita Nayak of the city-based Suravi dance institute were adjudged the joint first runner-ups while Utkal Dance Research Academy’s Subhalaxmi Padhi finished third.

The winners would be awarded cash prizes of Rs.10,000, Rs.5,000 and Rs.3,000 by Muscat-based A.K.Parija

Presentations while they will be offered to perform in the forthcoming Devdasi national dance festival in Bhubaneswar . The festival and competition were being hosted by Devdasi Nrutya Mandir in association with the Department of Culture and A.K.Parija Presentations.

Twenty-one dancers including nine from outside the State who performed in this national festival for young Odissi dancers were selected as winners of the coveted ‘Odissi Jyoti’ titles for their exceptional performances by a jury of six eminent dancers and dance gurus.
