Fish workers burn Finance Minister in effigy

Thiruvananthapuram: Hundreds of fish workers staged a rally in front of the Secretariat on Tuesday and burnt Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac in effigy to protest against the Minister’s move to support a proposal for reclamation of land.

The agitation was organised by the Kerala Swathanthra Matsyathozhilaly Federation (KSMTF) against the Minister’s statement endorsing a proposal by NABARD to set up industrial units on land reclaimed from the sea. KSMTF leaders urged the government to give up the move as it would lead to ecological problems in the coastal areas.
