KOZHIKODE: The report on modernisation of the coir sector will be submitted by the government-appointed commission in May, Anathalavattom Anandan, chairman of the commission, has said. He was participating in a sitting of the commission to gather information on the problems faced by coir cooperative societies, at the District Industrial Centre here on Tuesday. It was pointed out that the wages of coir workers were one of the lowest. The poor wages were the main reason why the workers sought other sources of employment. Unless modernisation was introduced to improve the quality of products, the sector could not grow. Increase in productivity and cost-effectiveness were the priorities of the commission.
