CONQUERING ODDS: A scene from the documentary Race Against Time, the preview of which was held at the Malappuram Press Club on Tuesday. MALAPPURAM: The Malappuram Mind, a local forum for progressive thinking, has come out with a documentary portraying an ordinary day from the life of an extraordinary man called Musthafa Thorappa. A preview of the documentary, Race Against Time, held at the Malappuram Press Club on Tuesday was interrupted by power failure, but the film contained enough ingredients and emotions to catch the attention of a wider audience. The film, directed by Madhu Janardanan and produced by Ameen Aslam, has been selected for the Emotion Picture Film Festival to be held in June in Athens, Greece. It will be screened at the International Video Festival to be held from May 23 in Thiruvananthapuram. Race Against Time outlines in less than 15 minutes the brave and exemplary story of Musthafa, who fought the odds not only to live but also to show the world that there is life after paralysis. Although he was rendered immobile after a road accident 14 years ago, he conquered the odds through sheer grit and willpower. And now Musthafa is a living legend for the physically challenged. For many, he is a hero; for others, he is a guide. That is what the film attempts to convey. The film, which unfolds the fact that Musthafa is physically immobile only towards the end, has no dialogue or voiceover.
