President lauds ISRO’s feat

Special Correspondent

“Launch demonstrates capabilities”

NEW DELHI: President Pratibha Patil led the nation in lauding scientists of the Indian Space Research Organisation for the record-breaking launch of PSLV-C9, carrying 10 satellites into orbit, from Sriharikota on Monday.

In a message to ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair and his team, Ms. Patil said the launch had once again demonstrated the nation’s capabilities in space launch technology.

Vice-President Hamid Ansari said the scientists had made the country proud with their extraordinary achievement which strengthened the country’s remote sensing and other technological capabilities.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, in a statement in the House, expressed confidence that with “one more feather in its cap,” ISRO would soon emerge as one of the major players in the international commercial satellite launch market. “I had the privilege of watching the historic launch process, which is the first of its kind, live on the national broadcaster and the precision with which the mission was accomplished made me feel extremely proud of the achievement of our space scientists, which will go down in the history of the Indian space research as a major milestone.” “I am sure you all will join me in congratulating the entire team of scientists, technologists and staff of the ISRO, who have made this mission a success,” the Speaker said.
