Rice scheme will stabilise prices: YSR

UDAYAGIRI (NELLORE): Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has claimed that the Rs. 2-a-kg rice scheme and distribution of pulses and edible through Fair Price Shops (FPS) would help in stabilising prices in the State.

Speaking after laying a foundation stone for Rs. 152-crore Seetharam Sagar project besides participating in the Praja Patham here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the State Government had cautiously examined all possibilities and decided to provide adequate quantity of rice to families who were Below Poverty Line (BPL). “And this scheme as well as pulses and edible oil at subsidised prices through FPS will soon stabilise prices across the State in coming days.”

‘Scheme will continue’

Claiming that the rice scheme has been revived keeping in view of the poorest of the poor who are still finding it difficult to meet both ends, he said that the Government would continue the scheme under the Public Distribution System by providing additional subsidy over and above the subsidy offered by the Centre as long as the Congress was in the power. “And the objective is to provide food security to the poor besides keeping prices at reasonable level.”

The Chief Minister also claimed that the Arogyasri scheme could improve access of BPL families to quality medical care .

Inaugurated

Later, he inaugurated Rajiv Gruhakalpa complex and laid foundation stone for Nellore barrage-cum-bridge across Penna river at Nellore. He also inaugurated District Education Office and Rajeev Vidya Mission building and later unveiled the statue of Anam Venkata Reddy besides addressing a public meeting.
