BU to be linked to UGC-infonet

The university will get connectivity for e-resources
It will help research scholars and students

Bangalore: The Bangalore University will get a 2GB bandwidth connectivity and more than 5,000 e-resources for the benefit of its teachers and research scholars. The university will now be able to increase its quality of research publications by making use of e-resources provided by UGC-Infonet, said Jagadish Arora, Director of Inflibnet Centre, Ahmedabad.

He was inaugurating the workshop on “Access to e-resources for teaching and research” here on Monday.

Dr. Arora said the University Grants Commission was spending a huge amount on subscribing e-resources for different universities in the country.

He called upon the teachers and research scholars to make best use of the facility extended by the UGC.

He said that all colleges affiliated to Bangalore University would get the benefit of e-resource facility through the Bangalore University Academic Library Network.

Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath launched the UGC-Infonet service and released the interactive CD of “thesis submitted to Bangalore University”.

While praising the efforts made by the university library, he said that such programmes should be taken up on a continuous basis at the faculty and department levels to create awareness about the services to postgraduate students and research scholars.

M.K. Bhandi, University Librarian, Mangalore University, said that teachers and research scholars should start using e-resources facility and get their research published in peer-reviewed journals.

P.V. Konnur, university librarian, welcomed the gathering. M. Anjanappa, deputy librarian, proposed a vote of thanks.
