Karnal: Backward Class leader and husband of late MP Phoolan Devi, Umed Kashyap, who had resigned from the Congress to join the Haryana Janhit Congress Party, on Tuesday announced his return saying the party “needs his services.” Congress chief Sonia Gandhi did not accept my resignation and conveyed through Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda that my “services are required in the party”, Mr. Kashyap said while talking to PTI on phone from Delhi. He had resigned from the post of vice-president, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC), three months ago. “As my resignation letter was not accepted, I reconsidered my decision,” Kashyap said. The Haryana Janhit Congress Party had not rendered any “official letter welcoming me to the party fold”, he added. Mr. Kashyap claimed that party general secretary Rahul Gandhi along with Mr. Hooda persuaded him against leaving the party. PTI
