JD(U) to launch manifesto on May 2

BANGALORE: In the light of the party’s “successful experiment” in containing criminal activities in Bihar, the election manifesto of the Janata Dal (United)’s State unit, which will be released here on May 2, will contain a demand that the popular government in Karnataka appoint a commission of inquiry headed by a judge of the High Court to look into the alleged nexus among politicians, civil and police officials and mafia.
The manifesto will also request the government, irrespective of its party composition, to book criminal cases against the alleged land, sand and iron ore mafia.
General secretary and in-charge of the State unit of the party Shabhu Srivastawa told presspersons here on Tuesday that Bihar’s law and order situation was unimaginable before the Janata Dal (U) came to power. He said a generally peaceful Karnataka was fast becoming another Bihar as evident by the number of candidates with “criminal background” contesting the elections in the State.
