Elephant herd kills Adivasi child

MALAPPURAM: An 11-month-old Adivasi child was trampled to death by an elephant herd at Munderi, near Nilambur, on Tuesday. The wild tuskers attacked the Kandankallu Adivasi colony in the early hours of Tuesday, killing the child of Lalu and Manjula. The Adivasi couple had shifted their stay to the colony fearing the threat of wild elephants earlier. Witnesses said one of the elephants snatched the child from its mother An assistance of Rs.50,000 has been sanctioned to the family on the directions of Forest Minister Benoy Viswom.
